Gangtok- The Capital
Gangtok is the capital and the largest town of Sikkim. It is also the headquarters of the East Sikkim district. Gangtok is in the eastern Himalayan range, at an altitude of 1,650 m (5,410 ft). With the higher peaks of the Himalaya and with a year-round mild climate, Gangtok is at the center of Sikkim's tourism industry. April to June & October are the peak tourist season yet travelers visit Gangtok throughout the year specially during December, January & February when snow fall is common in areas at higher altitude, easily reachable from Gangtok. Mahatma Gandhi Marg (MG Marg) and Lal Market are prominent business areas and tourist spots in Gangtok. Gurudongmar Lake
Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lake in India, at an altitude of 16,900 ft. It is considered sacred by Buddhists, Sikhs and Hindus and most sought after destination in North Sikkim Tour Packages.
Yumthang Valley
Yumthang Valley or Sikkim Valley of Flowers is Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary with river, hot spring, yaks and grazing pasture on flowery meadows surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. It's altitude is 11,693 ft above and 150 kilometers from Gangtok.
Tsongo Lake & Nathula Pass

Nathu La pass connects India with China. The pass is 54 km east of Gangtok city, the capital of Sikkim. Zuluk & Silk Route

By Air
The only airport in Sikkim is near to Gangtok in Pakyong which is 31 kms from the capital. Only Flights from Delhi and Kolkata is available by Spicejet Airlines.
The more popular for tourist is to reach Sikkim is by Bagdogra Airport, West Bengal which is about 124 kilometers away. From the airport, you can hire a taxi that will get you to Gangtok/Pelling or any other destination in a matter of 4-5 hours. The drive from Bagdogra to Gangtok is enjoyable due to gorgeous mountains and River Teesta.
From Bagdogra, you can also take a Sikkim Tourism helicopter to get to Gangtok in just 30 minutes. However, their services depend on the weather conditions and gets cancelled because of low capacity bookings.
By Rail
The nearest railway station to Gangtok is about 130 kilometres away in New Jalpaiguri in Siliguri, West Bengal. The station is well-connected to all major cities like Kolkata. Mumbai, Chennai. Guwahati and New Delhi. From New Jalpaiguri you can take a taxi to Gangtok or go to Siliguri Bus Stand and catch a state-run bus to Gangtok, which will take you about 4-5 hours.
By Road
Tourists travelling from nearby places like Siliguri, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Guwahati and Kolkata prefer to drive to Gangtok. Siliguri is 120 Kms from Gangtok. The roads are well-maintained, except in a few places which gets cut mostly in rainy season due to landslides.
