Lachung (base for Yumthang Valley) is further ahead from Lachen and takes around 7-8 hours from Gangtok, depending on stops and road conditions.

Permits: To visit North Sikkim, including places like Lachen, Lachung, Gurudongmar Lake, and Yumthang Valley, you need an Inner Line Permit (ILP). This permit is obtained through police and we arrange it for you.

Snowfall in Gangtok itself is rare, but occasionally, light snowflakes may be seen during extremely cold spells. However, significant snowfall rarely occurs in lower altitude areas like Gangtok, which is at around 1,600 meters above sea level.

East and West Sikkim:

Best Time to Experience Snowfall in Sikkim:

If you specifically want to experience snowfall in Sikkim, the best time to visit would be during the winter months from December to February.

A: Any of the above mentioned destination is perfect for honeymoon depending upon your interest. Sikkim is very tourist friendly and people are very hospitable.  

A: Indians do not require any permits to visit the state, however for certain areas East Sikkim and North Sikkim you need to get inner line permits to visit. There is no permit requirements for South & West Sikkim.

For Foreign indivisuals the process is more complex with entry into the state is allowed for 30 days at a time. Also some areas of east & north Sikkim are out of bounds.
