Rinchenpong is a town close to village of Kaluk in West Sikkim, and is situated about 123 km west of Gangtok, 47 km due south of (Geyzing). At an altitude of 5576 feet Rinchenpong is famous for its Monastery and various trekking routes. Rinchenpong is also known for its views of the majestic Mt Kanchenjunga range. One can see the majestic view of Mount Kangchenjunga, Kabru, Mount Pandim and Kumbhakarna Mountain from here.
Near the town is the site of a historical battle between the forces of the then King of Sikkim and the invading British forces. The Lepcha tribesmen used a unidentified herbs to poison the only water source, a lake resulting in the death of more than half of the British forces. The lake is considered poisoned even up to this day.
Rinchenpong is a popular tourist spot in West Sikkim. It is also a place famous for 2 of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim, Reesum Monastery and Rinchenpong Monastery. Both were built around 17th to 18th century. Rinchenpong Monastery is the 3rd oldest monastery in Sikkim, starting with around 98 lamas. The monastery houses a rare statue represented as a naked Buddha in blue. In the Yab-Yum position, the Buddha is shown meditating while embracing a woman.
It is said that in 1913 Rabindranath Tagore visited this place and wrote a poem for his book Gitanjali, titled Chitto Jetha Bhayshunyo. There is a viewpoint above Rinchen Chholing Monastery, named Rabindra Smriti Van honoring his name. This viewpoint is filled with Rhododendron and some other seasonal flowers. One can approach the Barsey Rhododendron trek staying at this location.

How To Reach Rinchenpong homestay/ Kaluk Homestay?
To reach Rinchenpong nearest airport is Pakyong and Rail station is New Jalpaiguri. Also Bagdogra airport near Siliguri is convenient option to travel to Rinchenpong. Siliguri is about 130 Kms from Rinchenpong and takes 4-5 hours to reach. The most convenient way is to book a cab from station or airport. Shared transport is available but are few from Siliguri. Instead take shared cabs to Jorethang town and then take shared cab to Rinchenpong.
What is the best time to visit Rinchenpong homestay and how many days to stay?
Rinchenpong is best visited in the months of March to May for it is the Rhododendron season there, but it can be visited all year round except the monsoon months of July to September. The majestic view of the mesmerizing
